When Camp Dreamatcher began thirteen years ago, most of the children were 5-7 years of age.  It has been a wonderful experience watching them grow up in the "Camp Dreamcatcher family."  The majority of the children served by Camp Dreamcatcher are now 11-17 years of age and we continue to expand and adapt our programs to meet their changing needs. The teens have created a "Teen Speaker's Bureau" and share their stories and challenges with middle schools, high schools, universities and community groups - reaching over 3,500 people a year.

The number of children and adolescents in need of our programs increases every year.  The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Preventions, HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report, 2006 provides the following statistics on U.S. HIV/AIDS:

  • Approximately 40,000 people in the U.S. become infected with HIV each year in the U.S.
  • More than 1 million people are living with HIV in the U.S.
  • An estimated one-fourth of people living with HIV in the U.S. do not know that they have been infected with the virus.
