Outreach & Education

Camp Dreamcatcher provides HIV/AIDS education and outreach to community groups, churches and schools. We visit sites to talk about camp and what we do, to answer questions and specifically in the schools to offer students a chance to hear the experience of a child or adolescent their age who is HIV positive, has a loved one living with HIV/AIDS or a family member who has died of HIV/AIDS. In 2008 & 2009 members of our Teen Speaker's Bureau shared their stories with over 3,500 students and community members.

The film "Tiny Tears" is being shown at numerous venues in the Philadelphia area.  It premiered at the United Nations last March and then was screened at The Cannes Film Festival. Robert Corna, the director, spent the summer of 2007 visiting orphanages in Thailand, Uganda and Brazil, before making his way to Camp Dreamcatcher.  There have been sixteen screenings of the film in 2009 and we will have two or three additional screenings on World AIDS Day - December 1st.  The goals of the screenings are to raise awareness of the physical, emotional and social impact that HIV/AIDS  has on children in Thailand, Uganda, Brazil and the United States.  The screenings also raise awareness about Camp Dreamcatcher and raise funds to support our programs.
